Health Care
for the 21st Century
By Eugene Fox
This has captured the attention of major governments. In 1994 the United States Congress unanimously passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in order to improve the health of the American people and lower health care costs. This comes from the preamble to that law: "The importance of nutrition and the benefits of dietary supplements to health promotion and disease prevention have been documented increasingly in scientific studies; there is a link between the ingestion of certain nutrients or dietary supplements and the prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis..."1
The Canadian Government is about to enact similar legislation. It provides this excellent definition of the term nutraceutical: "A product isolated or purified from foods and generally sold in medicinal forms not usually associated with food, and demonstrated to have a physiological benefit, or provide protection against chronic disease."2
What these two governments have provided is very helpful. They are talking about foods that are non-toxic and safe, separating nutraceuticals from all pharmaceutical drugs which are toxic and have harmful side effects. All drugs are invasive, confrontational and foreign to the body, forcing it to make specific changes. By contrast, nutraceuticals are gentle foods that are friendly to the body, facilitating it to take whatever actions it knows to be beneficial for itself. The contrast is quite stark.
Still, nutraceuticals and drugs have one thing in common: proven effectiveness. As the American government points out, nutraceuticals have been "documented increasingly in scientific studies" to be effective in "health promotion and disease prevention," and they even go on to name specific chronic diseases "such as cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis." The Canadian government reinforces this by saying that nutraceuticals have been "demonstrated to have a physiological benefit, or provide protection against chronic disease." This is highly profound - even revolutionary. We have major governments acknowledging and endorsing a revolutionary major change in health care. This has the potential of profoundly impacting everyone in a very positive way.
Notice that nutraceuticals do not merely claim effectiveness - they demonstrate it scientifically, showing how they significantly benefit the body by contributing to optimal health and dealing effectively with chronic diseases. This separates these highly specialized substances from ordinary supplements, vitamins, minerals, and herbs which have little or no science.
So far, however, it is not easy for many people to comprehend this. Thats because
its so new. What follows is offered to help you work through this for yourself,
particularly with regard to one particular nutraceutical which towers far above them all.
It is very important to note that the Canadian Government definition acknowledges that these functional foods "provide protection against chronic disease." Thats a huge statement. Turning to the American scene, no less an eminent authority than Dr. Darryl See3 states that 120 million Americans have chronic diseases (like arthritis, asthma, colitis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia), and everyone else can expect to develop them in the next few years. He points out that we have to go back to the Bubonic plague of the 1300s to find a health crisis that approaches the magnitude of what we are presently experiencing. That really puts this into perspective and demands our full attention.
These products are very necessary.
Twelve-year-old William (not his real name) seemed to be in great health, but suddenly
he was diagnosed with a large malignant brain tumor. Thirteen hours of surgery were
required to remove as much of it as possible. It turned out that his entire brain, brain
stem and much of his spine were affected by the malignancy, yet a month earlier his doctor
would have pronounced him completely healthy. This is becoming all too common. Something
is terribly wrong. We need to do more to care for our health. Someone has said, "If
we continue to do what were doing, well continue to get what weve
got."
Who then is healthy? Can anyone with a suppressed immune system be considered healthy? No, there is no such thing as a healthy person with a weakened immune system, no matter how well that person appears to be. Anyone with a weakened immune system is a walking time bomb. They can be in great shape, feel well, have high energy - and all the while be quietly unraveling internally. Eventually the straw that breaks the camels back, suddenly tips the scales, putting that person over the edge into sickness, chronic illness - or even death. They have exhausted their resources. It happens all the time.
Currently, 95% of Americans will die like this:
This is not a healthy population. And please note, we are only talking about deaths
here. In addition there are many kinds of living death - chronic diseases like
arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohns disease, colitis, fibromyalgia, multiple
sclerosis and Hepatitis C.
Medical experts say everyone develops cancer cells every day. Everyone. But thats
not a problem as long as the immune system is strong. But what happens when it becomes
weak? Cancer - or any number of other diseases - can take over. A strong immune system is
the only defense against full-blown disease. There is no substitute - none whatsoever. And
we have already seen that our immune systems are being devastated.
Actually, its worse. Conditions like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and arthritis are manifesting themselves much earlier - even in children. Not long ago a 15-year-old basketball player in Everett Washington suddenly died during a game. His heart stopped for no apparent reason. CPR was done until the medics arrived. They worked on him for 30 minutes, but to no avail. An autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death. This young athlete had all the signs of being healthy, but obviously was not.
Where does this leave us? We simply must stop relying on how we look and feel, not even
trusting a clean bill of health from a doctor. This calls for a radical change
of thinking. Reality forces us to admit that we are in very serious trouble.
The process begins by making basic lifestyle and dietary changes. Beyond that, it requires taking a highly specialized nutraceutical supplement to restore the immune system, and then adding complementary essentials to give what we need. Obviously the supplement that builds the immune system stands above them all.
This key supplement is a complex of saccharides called glyconutrients. Its effectiveness amazes the scientific community. Of all the 200 sugars found in nature, Harpers Biochemistry4 identified eight which enable the body to achieve full cell-to-cell communication. The glyconutrient supplement is made up of all eight.5
This is vitally important because everything in the body happens at the cellular level.
When there is complete communication among the cells, amazing things can happen. The body
is enabled to cleanse itself of toxins and defend itself against bacteria and viruses. If
disease conditions have already set in, glyconutrients can help the body to heal itself.
The body can do these things, once it has been given the necessary tools. The
glyconutrient complex is the most necessary of all.
Other key nutrients work synergistically with glyconutrients to deliver optimal health
and maximum protection. This is the best health care news the world has had in a very long
time.
